Blustery Weekend at Bodega Bay

While at Dillon Beach(In Bodega Bay) over the weekend of the 17th of September we had a very eventful time.

On Friday after we arrived we set up camp and then walked out on the dunes and watched the stars before we went to bed.

The next morning we got up and spent a while after breakfast relaxing and then went out on the beach wading and playing ultimate frisbee. There were some rather funny moments such as one of the scouts belly-flopping into the water, while another scout chose to be buried in the sand. The evening was spent relaxing around camp reading and working on rank requirements.

As it was going to rain the next day we made sure everything was covered and protected from the rain. By 8 in the morning the wind had picked up significantly. We had two popup tents unhitch from the ground, one hit our tent, while our rain fly ripped. As the wind and rain were getting so bad, we had a quick breakfast and packed up to move to a less windy spot. We drove to a park about 20-30 minutes away from the coast where it was less windy so that we could sit down together to have a Scout’s Own meeting. It was one of the most memorable campouts for me in the past year.

A part of the great adventure of Scout outings includes the fun hikes, exploring the coastline, and cooking over the campfire - but it also includes learning how to be prepared, what to do when the weather does change from being bright and sunny to windy, rainy, and cold - and knowing that we can have fun in the midst of it!
